Coach Raftery roll as an Athletic Administrator over the past decade serves as a key element to the Red Penguin Administrative team. Having served as the Associate Athletic Director for a better part of the decade, Coach Raftery’s expertise in all facets of student-athlete’s development is second to none. Coach Raftery additional administrative rolls have included service on the Executive Board of the Basketball Coaches Association of New York, Section V Executive Basketball Committee, Section V Sportsmanship Executive Committee, MCPSAA League Chairmen and Executive Board to the NYS Umpires Association.
Coach Ryan Raftery has served as the head coach of the Churchville-Chili women’s varsity basketball and men’s varsity soccer teams over the past decade. During the past decade as the women’s basketball coach he has resurrected the women’s basketball team (schools all time winning percentage leader) into the elite status of NYS basketball. Previously Coach Raftery spent much of the 1990’s coaching basketball and varsity boys/girls soccer at Wheatland-Chili HS.
During the last 20 years his basketball and soccer teams have produced multiple championships in sectional, league, and tournament play. As the schools all time leader in winning percentage and coaching victories his athletes has been extremely beneficial. Over 20 athletes have gone on to play at the Collegiate level, 10 times received all NY state honors, 7 times All Greater Rochester 1st team honors, and 3 Section V Players of the Year.
The success of the women’s basketball program has earned Coach Raftery a wide range of recognition as one of the nation’s best basketball coaches. During the past 10 years he has been awarded over a dozen Coaches of the Year Awards. Awards include a 4 time Basketball Coaches Association of New York Coach of the Year honor. Other honors are includes at the Regional (2), Sectional (3), and County (3) levels. Coach Raftery was also recognized by the Democrat and Chronicle in December of 2007 for his role as President and Founder of the Greater Rochester Girls Youth Basketball League.
