Coach Dave Maynard brings a diverse coaching, playing and sport promotion background as the National Director of Water Polo for Red Penguin Athletics. “Coach Dave” is a former player/coach at the University of Wyoming for 4 years and was selected as an All-Conference Team Player in 1997. His coaching responsibilities included player development in all positions including goalies and also player recruitment. “Coach Dave” also lead the Western Region Scholastic Water Polo Team to Gold Medals as their Head Coach in 1997 and as an assistant coach during 1995 & 1996. He also competed on the Scholastic and Open Western Region Teams at the Empire State Water Polo Team for the Western Region from 1989-1997.
“Coach Dave” is currently the co-host and analyst (with Trevor Freeman) for “Talking Water Polo at the Planet”. This water polo based talk radio show covers national and international team activity, analysis and reporting. “Coach Dave” coordinates guests for the show and conducts interviews highlighting the NCAA and international game. He corresponds with collegiate and international coaches concerning current activities within the sport and discusses game strategies.
“Coach Dave” is also the Vice-President of Coaching Resources for Water Polo Planet (www.waterpoloplanet.com) where he authors a monthly column, “Water Polo Tactics”, which describes both conventional and unconventional tactics used in today’s game. He also works with Richard Hunkler and Joan Gould in developing coaching tools for web site implementation.
“Coach Dave” has a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Wyoming, Laramie and holds a Professional Engineer License in the states of Wyoming and Colorado. He is also a certified USA Water Polo (Level II) Referee with education through the Water Polo Academy.
